The U.S. Navy selected Saunders Engine and Equipment Co. Inc., Gulf Shores, for an almost $15 million contract to provide small-craft maintenance and upgrade support services in support of the Naval Oceanographic Office.

The contract includes a 60-month ordering period, and one six-month option period, which if exercised would bring the contract to almost $16.5 million.

All work will be performed in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Work will begin in July 2025 and expected to be completed by June 2030; if the option is exercised work will be completed by December 2030.

Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Norfolk, Fleet Directorate, Norfolk, Virginia, is the contracting agency.

Saunders Engine & Equipment Company began in 1959 as a commercial diesel engine service provider in Mobile. The company in the early 1990s branched out into the recreational yacht sector, creating Saunders Yachtworks in 1993.

Saunders operates a full-service yacht repair facility in coastal Alabama, managing projects ranging from routine maintenance to major refits and repowers.

The Naval Oceanographic Office, the largest subordinate command within the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, is responsible for providing oceanographic products and services to all elements of the Department of Defense.

The office is located at John C. Stennis Space Center in south Mississippi. It specializes in data collection and analysis to provide “the warfighter the best available knowledge of the maritime battlespace. This includes tailored oceanographic, hydrographic, bathymetric, geophysical and acoustic products and services that aid in safe navigation and effective mission planning.”
