The U.S. Navy awarded Alabama Shipyard LLC in Mobile a $9.5 million contract for routine docking and service to the Military Sealift Command’s fleet replenishment ship, the USNS Robert E. Peary.

The contract calls for a 49-calendar-day shipyard availability, but it includes a base work package and two unexercised options for additional work and time, which if exercised, would increase the cumulative value of this contract to more than $9.6 million.

The USNS Robert E. Peary (T-AKE 5) is a Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship capable of conducting replenishment-at-sea assignments delivering supplies such as ammunition, food, repair parts, stores and small quantities of fuel to ships at sea, including aircraft carriers; or to other mission needs, such as U.S. Marine Corps operations.

Work will be performed in Mobile beginning Sept. 2, 2025, and is expected to be completed by Oct. 21, 2025.

Military Sealift Command, Norfolk, Virginia, is the contracting agency.

Alabama Shipyard is located at the mouth of the Mobile River and specializes in providing maintenance, repair, overhaul, conversion and shipbreaking services to commercial and government markets.
