The U.S. Navy awarded Alabama Shipyard LLC, based in Mobile, a nearly $15 million contract for routine service work on the Military Sealift Command’s replenishment oiler USNS Joshua Humphreys (T-AO 188).

The contract calls for a 73-calendar day shipyard availability. Work will be performed in Mobile beginning March 26, and is expected to be completed by June 6.

Military Sealift Command, Norfolk, Virginia, is the contracting agency.

The Joshua Humphreys is a Henry J. Kaiser-class replenishment oiler that has remained in and out of service since 1987.

Its namesake, Joshua Humphreys, is noted for having designed the six original U.S. Navy frigates, including the USS Constitution, which remains in ceremonial service.

Alabama Shipyard, meanwhile, continues to attract a steady flow of Navy contracts, including for replenishment vessels and the Navy’s two primary hospital ships, the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy.
