A battleship, a cruiser and a contest among state troopers

It’s unlikely that the World War II sailors who once sailed on the USS Alabama battleship ever envisioned their vessel being the backdrop for a national contest on what state has the best trooper land cruiser, but there it is.

The American Association of State Troopers hosted the “2024 Best-Looking Cruiser Contest” via a Surveymonkey.com call for votes, with a photo from each state of a trooper cruiser shown with a background representing the state. The contest ended July 29.

The Alabama State Trooper photo shows a Dodge cruiser with a trooper helicopter hovering in the air above it, and the USS Alabama docked in the background.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, which includes the state troopers, promoted the contest on its social media accounts.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us during this friendly contest with our fellow state agencies across the nation!” its Twitter/X account said.

Alabama’s state troopers patrol approximately 69,500 miles of rural roadways in Alabama and are responsible for motor vehicle law enforcement, rural traffic crash investigation and special duty performance during emergencies.

The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is located in Mobile and is one of Alabama’s most popular tourist attractions.
