The U.S. Navy has selected Davidson, an engineering and technology research firm based in Huntsville, for inclusion in its SeaPort Next Generation program, the company announced on Monday.

Known as SeaPort-NxG, the program is the Navy’s streamlined procurement vehicle for professional support services across the Navy, Marine Corps and other Department of Defense entities.

Acceptance into SeaPort-NxG qualifies companies and firms for faster access and approval in bids for projects representing up to $4 billion total in competition for various contracts. Davidson joins several other Alabama companies in the program, most of which are located in Huntsville.

Notable, however, for Davidson is its recent headline-making announcement of bringing quantum computing to Alabama by placing a D-Wave quantum computer at its new global headquarters in Huntsville.

Quantum computing, a technology combination capable of being superior to and advancing basic artificial intelligence applications, will provide opportunities to study and develop state-of-the-art computer abilities, including future classified support for the Department of Defense.

“For Davidson, securing SeaPort-NxG represents a strategic milestone, enabling the company to broaden its defense sector support in areas including systems engineering and integration, advanced weapon system modeling, AI/ML (artificial intelligence and machine learning) applications, quantum computing, supply chain management, and multi-domain solutioning,” the company said in its Monday announcement.

The Navy conducts rolling admissions to allow new industry partners the opportunity to participate.

“SeaPort NxG provides an efficient and effective means of contracting for professional support services and enhancing small business participation,” Navy materials explain.

Dale Moore, president and CEO of Davidson, said the new Navy contract “aligns perfectly with our mission to provide innovative solutions that empower the warfighter and safeguard national security. SeaPort-NxG allows us to continue delivering on that promise, leveraging our expertise to support the Navy’s critical missions with precision and innovation.”
