The U.S. Army awarded Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services a $12.2 million contract for the operation of dining facilities at the Fort McClellan Training Center in Anniston.

Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, created by the Alabama Legislature in 1994, is the state agency that serves Alabamians with disabilities from birth throughout their lives. “Our ‘continuum of care’ approach means that help is here at every stage of a person’s life,” its materials say.

Headquartered in Montgomery, its mission is “to enable children and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential.”

Services are provided by four main programs through 25 community offices, reaching residents in all 67 counties.

“Every Alabamian should be able to put their God-given talents to work,” Gov. Kay Ivey said during a previous ceremony recognizing the agency.

The number of working Alabamians with disabilities has increased by more than 21 percent over the last decade. Average full-time earnings have grown by more than 29 percent over the same time period, from $35,300 to $49,800.

“Much of the credit for this rise is due to the beneficial training programs at the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services,” Ivey said. “I’m proud to note that ADRS’s programs, which celebrate the value and talent of Alabama’s workers with disabilities, ranked among the highest performing in our nation.”

Fort McClellan Training Center, located within the Army’s former Fort McClellan, is a key training hub for the Alabama National Guard and other military units, hosting specialized training, special forces competitions, conferences and various other exercises.

The contract awarded ADRS calls for it to provide the training center services including “food preparation, serving, and sanitation to ensure high-quality, nutritious meals.”

It carries an estimated completion date of Jan. 31, 2031.

U.S. Property and Fiscal Office, Alabama, is the contracting agency.
