The U.S. Army has awarded Huntsville-based Intrepid LLC a $534 million contract for a wide variety of support services at various locations through July 2029 and including support for air and missile defense initiatives.

The work includes “programmatic and technical support in the areas of program operations, systems engineering, systems test, systems software engineering and systems logistics,” according to the Department of Defense.

Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting agency for the more than half-billion dollars promised to the growing company.

Intrepid is a small-business provider of services and technologies in the government marketplace. Its Department of Defense clients since 2002 include the Army, Air Force and Missile Defense Agency. It specializes in engineering and technical support, program management and contract execution.

Intrepid is headquartered in Huntsville, and in February 2023 it opened a Gulf Coast office in Shalimar, Florida, near Eglin Air Force Base.

“We will provide the highest quality personnel and apply state-of-the-art analysis, tools and procedures to manage your complex programs and address technical issues,” its promotional materials state. “This experience enables us to assess existing, new and emerging technologies, and facilitate their development, incorporation and improvement into complex military systems.”

Mark Statham, Intrepid’s business unit manager working with the Army in its Program Executive Office (PEO) Missiles and Space programs, credited consistency with the company’s workforce performance as a contributing factor in landing the contract.

“It is a testament to the skill and expertise this contract team provides on a daily basis that we were selected to support this critical U.S. Army modernization program,” Statham said in a company statement.

The Army’s PEO Missiles and Space service supports acquisitions and programs with Army air and missile defense, hypersonic, directed energy, counter-unmanned aerial systems, integrated fires mission command, and aviation and ground missiles modernization initiatives.

Intrepid’s ties to the service run deep, with support to the mission pre-dating Intrepid’s establishment as an independent company to include several years under ownership as a joint venture beginning in 2002.

“Intrepid is deeply appreciative of the opportunity to continue to support” the Army’s goals, said Intrepid’s president, Mark Vaporis. The mission “is critically important to Army technical superiority, and I am proud of our collective team, to include our trusted corporate partners, and the expertise they provide to ensure mission success.”
