The Department of Defense and U.S. Navy awarded Invariant Corp., based in Huntsville, and a California company a combined $400 million contract for the integration and delivery of a Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System/Engagement System.

Defense against drone warfare has become a given on the battlefield, and research continues to explore various ways to engage.

Invariant and Anduril Federal, a Division of Anduril Industries Inc., Costa Mesa, California, also will provide associated hardware, software and services.

Invariant Corporation, founded in 2001, offers a wide range of services in hardware and sensor development, prototyping, field-service engineering, and custom software development.

The DOD on Wednesday announced the contract, which will use funds allotted to the U.S. Marine Corps.

Each awardee will be awarded its first order for First Article Test units and Program Management Support within one week of contract award. Work will be performed in Huntsville and Costa Mesa, California, and is expected to be completed by October 2031.

Fiscal 2024 research, development, test and evaluation Marine Corps funds in the amount of $15,459,308 will be obligated within one week of contract award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

All other funding will be made available at the delivery order level as contracting actions occur.

The maximum dollar value, including the base period with four additional ordering periods, is $200 million per contract.

Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Virginia, is the contracting agency.
