The U.S. Navy has chosen Huntsville-based Synovix Inc. and another company to share in a $48 million contract to manufacture the optical dome for the Navy’s Sidewinder air intercept missile.
The Sidewinder is an air-to-air, supersonic, guided missile. Synovix’s work supports the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, and Foreign Military Sales partners by replacing damaged lenses to maintain air superiority.
Synovix specializes in technical, engineering and organizational performance solutions, including cyber work and various research-and-development projects.
Surmet Corp., of Burlington, Massachusetts, will join Synovix in the work order announced last week by the Department of Defense. Each contract will run concurrently and will include a five-year base ordering period, completed by March 2030.
Work will be primarily performed in the continental U.S., with locations still to be determined.
Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, is the contracting agency.
