The U.S. Marine Corps and Department of Defense recently awarded Hexagon US Federal Inc., Huntsville, a modification bringing to nearly $35 million a contract for sustainment of the Consolidated Emergency Response System (CERS).

Marine Corps bases worldwide use the CERS, which standardizes emergency dispatching capabilities and provides emergency first responders with enhanced command and coordination to support all hazardous response missions.

CERS was conceived following the 2009 shooting at the U.S. Army’s Fort Hood in which 13 people were killed and 43 wounded or injured. A Department of Defense review of the tragedy highlighted opportunities for improved emergency response procedures and capabilities throughout the DOD.

In response, the Marine Corps created the CERS program of record, a multifaceted system that integrates modernized equipment and software to expedite and streamline emergency response activities.

Hexagon will provide hardware, software and services to sustain and maintain CERS at Marine Corps installations.

Work under the new contract will be performed at Iwakuni, Japan (8.8%); Cherry Point, North Carolina (7.6%); Quantico, Virginia (7.6%); Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan (7.6%); Beaufort, South Carolina (7.6%); Parris Island, South Carolina (7.6%); Albany, Georgia (7.6%); Camp Pendleton, California (7.6%); Barstow, California (7.6%); Twentynine Palms, California (7.6%); Miramar, Florida (7.6%); Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (7.6%); and Yuma, Arizona (7.6%), with an expected completion date of March 31, 2027.

Hexagon US Federal is an independent subsidiary of Hexagon Corporation and provides a wide range of technology and professional services to the U.S. government and Department of Defense. Hexagon Corp is headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia, with offices in Huntsville; Lanham, Maryland; and Lexington Park, Maryland.

Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Virginia, is the contracting agency.
