HUNTSVILLE — The U.S. Army has awarded an almost $49 million contract to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) for research work and engineering and aviation development services.

The Department of the Defense announced the contract Wednesday (Dec. 18).

Work locations and funding will be determined with each order for services under the contract, which has an estimated completion date of Dec. 31, 2029.

The Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting agency.

No other details regarding work specifications were shared in the DOD’s announcement, however UAH continues to grow its reputation for work contributing to the aerospace industry, including with NASA and the Department of Defense.

“Located adjacent to the Redstone Arsenal, an economic engine of more than $100 billion per year, UAH faculty, staff and students are able to conduct research side-by-side with world-class experts from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the U.S. Army, the Missile Defense Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and other important Department of Defense partners,” the university states.

“UAH regularly ranks among the Top 20 universities in research funded by NASA and by the Department of Defense, but UAH also performs cutting-edge research for the National Science Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Energy, and the National Institutes of Health.

“As the anchor tenant of Cummings Research Park, the second-largest corporate research and technology park in the United States, UAH collaborates with more than 285 high-technology companies serving the U.S. Aerospace and Defense sectors, as well as scientists and entrepreneurs at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology.”

UAH is ranked as “R1 – Very high research activity” status among doctoral-granting universities in the Carnegie rankings, placing UAH among the top public universities in the United States.
