The U.S. Army has awarded Brasfield & Gorrie LLC, Birmingham, a contract worth nearly $1 billion for four major design and construction projects at Anniston Army Depot.
The depot in northeast Alabama was established in 1941 and today serves as a key military maintenance facility most often recognized for its heavy combat vehicle, small-arms weaponry and locomotive expertise, as well as work on assault bridging, artillery and non-tactical generators.
The contract includes a $658 million award, but with a cumulative face value of $987 million for construction work on four separate facilities in Anniston: a component remanufacture facility, a missile maintenance facility, a paint facility and a storage facility.
The federal government and Army began asking for bids in April, and the War Department announced the contract on Thursday.
Brasfield & Gorrie is a longtime Alabama-based construction company that has a well-established history of large projects, including for the federal government and U.S. military.
Work on the new contract is expected to be completed by Aug. 30, 2030.
Army Mission Installation Contracting Command, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is the contracting agency.
