United States Space Command revealed a first look of its planned new headquarters at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, during a visit publicized Monday with Huntsville-Madison civic leaders in Washington, D.C.
SPACECOM’s commander, Gen. Stephen Whiting, shared a conceptual rendering of the command’s future permanent warfighting headquarters while giving a relocation update with the officials, as the transition continues from its initial, temporary headquarters in Colorado Springs.

Last Wednesday, personnel assigned to SPACECOM’s J2 Intelligence Directorate relocated to Redstone Arsenal and were among the first personnel to make the permanent move, with an estimated 200 personnel planned to relocate from Colorado Springs to Huntsville this year.
Once the transition is complete in the early 2030s, an estimated 1,300 to 1,700 civilian and military personnel will fill SPACECOM HQ’s ranks in Huntsville.
Earlier this year, Whiting announced Alabama native and Guardsman Maj. Gen. Terry L. Grisham would lead the relocation from the Tennessee Valley and appointed him to oversee the Redstone Transition Team at Redstone Arsenal.
Grisham, Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle were among those in attendance at the update in Washington.
