St. Clair County business picks up more work in Army contract for heavy-haul trailers

Fontaine Commercial Trailer Inc., of Springville, Alabama, was awarded a $17.6 million U.S. Army contract modification, bringing to more than $51 million the original contract, for additional specialized truck trailers used for hauling heavy equipment such armored vehicles, construction equipment or aircraft modules.

Springville is located in St. Clair County northeast of Birmingham.

Fontaine produces a wide range of low-bed trailers, primarily for the construction and transportation industries in addition to the military.

The company conducts in-house research, engineering and product design, and conducts durability testing in the lab and in the field to meet client needs such as those of the Army.

The Army utilizes Fontaine’s M172A2 model of trailers for its family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles, including damaged military vehicles that are hauled to repair facilities, and various heavy equipment in need of transportation to new locations or to railway or seagoing transport facilities.

The modification announced today adds to a contract originally implemented in 2022.

Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting agency.
